Game of Thrones Risk gives you something to do when winter comes

In what must be the most obvious game/TV tie in ever, game giant Hasbro has teamed up with HBO to make a Game of Thrones version of the popular world conquest game Risk. While there are already plenty of Game of Thrones tie ins (excluding the books and TV shows there are figurines, action figures, models, pendants and even a wedding dress) at least the Risk tie in actually fits in with the story, it’s a strategic game of armies and battles where alliances can be made and broken in quick succession.

Game of Thrones Westeros
The game will feature 2 separate game boards, one for Westeros and one for Essos which allows for 3 different games, depending on the number of players you have. 2 Players can play on Essos as House Targaryen v the Ghiscari, 3 to 5 can play on Westeros as Houses Baratheon, Lannister, Martell, Stark and Tyrell or if you’re lucky enough to have 7 people you can use both maps for a full game.

GOT Counters

The game will feature unique player boards for each house as well as house specific counters and character cards, Maester cards, territory and objective cards, special unit tokens and gold dragon coins. The whole thing certainly looks the part and since Risk has been a popular game for over 50 years now even if you have a friend or two who isn’t into Game of Thrones they can still enjoy the game for it’s own sake, you could even use this as a way of getting people into the books and/or TV show.

GOT Board2

All in all this looks like a treat for both books and Game of Thrones fans even at the hefty price of $74.95 (about £50, no actual UK price available yet). So if you think you’ve got what it takes to claim the Iron Throne look out for it in the shops soon.

Geek Power's answer to Jeremy Clarkson. That's to say he's a sad, middle aged man with a big mouth who's trying to act like he's still in his twenties. he remembers the days of punch cards, paper tape and hard drives the size of toasters with the capacity of the kind of usb stick you might get in a Christmas cracker.
