Ok, so this guy spends what must surely be tens of thousands of shiny Australian Dollars to get a biocompatible scaffolding matrix inserted in his arm, in the shape of an Ear.
After nearly 20 years of planning and a decade of hunting for a medical team as bonkers as he is, Stelarc (?) who is also the head of the Alternate Anatomies Laboratory at Curtin University, said the project was a sign of things to come.
“Increasingly now, people are becoming internet portals of experience … imagine if I could hear with the ears of someone in New York, imagine if I at the same time could see with the eyes of someone in London.”
6 months after insertion, Stelarcs body had done its thing and propagated this extra ear with blood vessels and tissue and all that stuff, so he has for all intents and purposes, an actual ear on his forearm.
but get this, it’s not for medical research, it’s not to replace a damaged ear or one missing from birth, no. This is ART man!
His aim is to get a wireless microphone inserted into it, stream whatever the ear hears to the internet 24/7 and provide GPS data of his location.
What. The. Actual. Fuck??
Bring back messy beds, frozen blood heads and bisected cows I say. Art just isn’t what it used to be when I was a kid.
